Boy dies as Shah Alam plaza wall collapses during rain

LAHORE: A boy died after a wall from the top of a plaza collapsed on him during rain in Noor Wali Gali. Shah Alam Market on Thursday.

As per Wasa control room, the city recorded an average rainfall of 3.2mm.

Highest rainfall was recorded in Saggian (10mm), followed by Gulshan-i-Ravi (8mm), Lakshmi Chowk (7.6mm), and Pani Wala Talab (6.6mm). Other areas including Tajpura (4.6mm), Shadipura (5.4mm),. Jail Road (1.75mm) also received light rain, while trace amounts were reported from Airport, Mughalpura, Samanabad, and Defence Road.

Earlier, a powerful weather system triggered rain, dust storms. strong winds in several parts of Punjab, causing damage to property, disrupting traffic and injuring two children in Muzaffargarh after a house wall collapsed.

In south Punjab. strong dust storms caused losses to mango orchards in several areas while trees were uprooted due to high winds. In Multan, billboards collapsed during the storm and damaged vehicles parked along roadsides.

Meanwhile, clouds covered Lahore as cool winds swept across the city and rainfall started in various localities.

Wasa Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmed, Wasa Punjab DG Tayyab Farid. Wasa Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed directed the authorities to keep all major roads and underpasses clear.

In Multan, the district administration and Wasa intensified preparedness measures in anticipation of heavy rainfall. Deputy Commissioner Nauman Siddique visited the New Shah Shams Disposal Station and inspected the machinery.

Emergency measures were under way to ensure timely drainage of rainwater.

Two men sustained injuries after being struck by lightning near Jumma Morr in the Sakhi Sarwar area of Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday night.

The injured were identified as 25-year-old Mushtaq who suffered a head injury and 35-year-old Mustafa.

National Highways. Motorways Police (NHMP) spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed said that rain was reported in various areas of the central Punjab region. He said that heavy rainfall was recorded from Lahore Eastern Bypass to Kamoke. also on Motorway M-11 from Kamoke to Sambrial, and from Muridwala to Darkhana on M-3.
