Munsey, Haynes lay platform as Notts continue upturn in form

Nottinghamshire 183 for 6 (Munsey 53, Haynes 50) beat Derbyshire 173 for 9 (Ali 3-25, Pennington 3-29) by 10 runs

Beaten in their opening three fixtures. Notts Outlaws have now won three in a row after seeing off North Group rivals Derbyshire Falcons by 10 runs in the Vitality Blast at Trent Bridge.

Half-centuries by George Munsey. Jack Haynes, backed up by 39 off 24 balls by wicketkeeper-batter Tom Moores helped the home side total 183 for 6 after being put in, Akif Javed taking 2 for 31.

It proved too many for Derbyshire Falcons, who clocked up a mammoth 234 for 4 in a 23-run win over their nearest neighbours at Derby last month. could muster only 173 for 9 this time, after Olly Stone, who went for 32 in a single over on that occasion, defended 20 off the final over here.

Outlaws pace duo Mohammad Ali. Dillon Pennington did much of the damage, with left-arm spinner Liam Patterson taking 2 for 27 as a succession of Falcons batters made starts but failed to kick on.

Earlier, the Outlaws were 59 for 1 after a powerplay that saw 38 come in the space of two overs as Munsey cleared the boundary four times, twice each off Jack Morley. Ben Aitchison, whose second over went for 22.

Joe Clarke was bowled by Javed for 6 but the partnership with Munsey was worth 50. Munsey. Haynes added 67 but departed in consecutive overs, Munsey's 53 from 32 balls ending with a catch at deep backward square. Haynes picked up maximums off Morley. Matthew Montgomery in his 50 off 36 but Morley dismissed him with a sharp return catch.

Moores struck three sixes but Benny Howell perished first ball and George Linde picked out deep extra cover. After Moores holed out to long-on, Freddie McCann's 12 from five balls left Derbyshire needing 9.2 per over.

They were ahead of that after their batting powerplay but with four wickets down. Pennington bowled Martin Andersson for a duck before Ali produced a burst of three wickets in five balls across two overs to remove three of the Falcons' chief threats.

He had Aneurin Donald caught behind for 20 off nine, induced Caleb Jewell to send one vertical for 25 off 13,. added Montgomery via a well-judged boundary catch by Haynes. Derbyshire still had time on their side. the loss of big hitter Ross Whiteley for 24 from 17 left them 92 for 5 after 10, with Amrit Basra soon following him off.

Patterson-White had Wayne Madsen caught off another miscued sweep to claim a second wicket before Nick Potts. having cleared the ropes twice, was caught by Pennington off his own bowling for 19 off 12.

A good catch by McCann on the leg-side boundary accounted for Javed. though 20 needed off the last over was not impossible, coming down to 12 from four balls after Aitchison picked up his third six, Stone finished the over superbly.
