ISLAMABAD: A suspect was killed while seven others were injured in seven separate encounters in the capital during the last 19 days.
In all the encounters, the suspects allegedly sustained bullet injuries from the firing of their accomplices.
Out of the total, four encounters took place when police took handcuffed suspects in custody to their hideouts for recovery. the arrest of their accomplices. However, their accomplices somehow got information and attacked the police in an attempt to free the suspects from custody.
They also managed to escape after killing or injuring the suspects in custody.
A suspect allegedly involved in a murder during a robbery was killed. another injured in an encounter in the area of Koral on May 7.
The Koral police had arrested two persons in connection with a murder during a robbery in the area of Ghouri Town Phase 7 on April 29. During the robbery, the suspects allegedly murdered Munib Qureshi.
A six-member police team was constituted, which took the handcuffed suspects to the hideout for recovery. the arrest of their accomplice.
Four persons riding two motorcycles appeared before the police team when they reached Ghouri Town Phase 7. They pulled out weapons and started indiscriminate firing at the police.
The two handcuffed suspects in custody also put up resistance and escaped. However, they sustained bullet injuries from the firing of the four motorcycle riders. fell to the ground, while the attackers escaped from the spot.
Later, the injured suspects were shifted to hospital where one of them was pronounced dead.
In another encounter. a handcuffed suspect in custody was injured during an encounter in the area of I-11 on Saturday (May 16). The suspect had been arrested in connection with a snatching incident and, during interrogation, disclosed the hideout being used by him. his accomplices.
In response, a police team, along with the handcuffed suspect, left for the hideout. The suspect identified two persons sitting on a railway track as his accomplices when the police reached I-11. The two people started firing at the police when they disembarked from the official vehicle along with the suspect.
The suspect in custody sustained a bullet and fell to the ground.
Likewise, another handcuffed suspect in custody was injured during an encounter in the area of I-15/3 on Saturday (May 16). Police had arrested the suspect in connection with a robbery and. during interrogation, he disclosed the presence of his two accomplices in a house in I-15.
In response, an eight-member police team was constituted, which took the handcuffed suspect to the hideout for the arrest. After reaching the house, the police team disembarked from the vehicle and moved towards the house along with the suspect.
All of a sudden, three people started firing at the police from inside the house. In the meantime, the gunmen escaped towards the adjacent fields.
In another encounter, a suspect was injured in the area of Tarnol on May 8. A seven-member police team was patrolling the area of Dhok Ramzania where they spotted three riders on a motorcycle. On suspicion, the police signalled them to stop, but the riders started firing at them.
The police resorted to aerial firing. During the exchange of fire, one of the riders sustained a bullet injury from the firing of his accomplices. fell to the ground, while the two others managed to escape.
Likewise, another suspect was injured during an encounter with police in the area of Spin Baba Shrine on May 4.
Similarly, another handcuffed suspect in custody was injured during an encounter on May 3. Police claimed that a six-member police team. along with the handcuffed suspect, was returning to the police station after recovering from his hideout. Four persons riding on two motorcycles appeared and intercepted the police vehicle when they reached Rawat.
The riders started firing at the police. However, he sustained a bullet injury from the firing of his accomplices. Moreover, a suspect was injured during an encounter with police in the area of Hamdani Town on April 28.
Separate cases were registered over the encounters at the relevant police stations.
