Two women infected with mpox virus at Mayo hospital

LAHORE: Two women tested positive for monkeypox virus in Mayo Hospital here on Tuesday.

Reports said the female patients were shifted to the hospital with identical symptoms of the mpox. a rare infectious viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus.

The doctors immediately isolated the women for further investigations/tests which later confirmed them positive for the virus.

A senior doctor said apparently the women had no history of international travelling. He said the hospital management has informed the health department for further investigations.

Third patient tests positive for mpox at BVH

BAHAWALPUR: After another man tested positive for the mpox virus. the number of confirmedcasesat Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) rose to three on Tuesday.

BVH Medical Superintendent’s Coordinator and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Muhammad Rizwan confirmed to Dawn that the blood samples of the man. which had been sent to a laboratory in Lahore on Friday, returned positive on Tuesday. He said the patient had already been under treatment in the hospital’s isolation ward.

Regarding the condition of the previously diagnosed mpox patient, a staff nurse at BVH, Dr. Rizwan said her health had improved. According to him, she no longer had fever nor spots on the body.

He added that if her recovery continued satisfactorily. she could be discharged after completing the remaining period of her mandatory 21-day isolation.

It merits mentioning that the third patient from whom the staff nurse had allegedly contracted the virus, had already recovered. was discharged from the hospital earlier. Hospital sources said the man who tested positive on Tuesday had reportedly been serving meals. attending to the original mpox patient during his stay at the hospital. The staff nurse is also believed to have contracted the virus from the same patient.

Although the nurse has largely recovered, she continues to remain in the isolation ward to complete the mandatory quarantine period.
