Security beefed up across Sindh for Ashura processions: Sharjeel

HYDERABAD: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that security has been enhanced. special arrangements have been made along the routes of Ashura processions across the province, including Hyderabad.

Talking to journalists at his Tandojam residence here Wednesday. he said all arrangements have been finalised after consultations with religious scholars. “Alhamdulillah, the law and order situation is better due to effective arrangements made by the Sindh government throughout the province.”

He dispelled the impression that any cut was made in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award. said that the provinces adjusted their shares according to priorities.

He said that all provinces were receiving a reduced share, which may affect development projects. result in a smaller development portfolio.

Rejects impression about cut in province’s share in NFC award

Memon added that the Sindh government remained committed to working for the welfare of people. He maintained that opposition members did not even read the budget. Instead of reviewing the budget, he said, they created a ruckus and walked out of the house.

He said that the federal government committed injustices. although the entire country’s imports and exports pass through Karachi, still no motorway exists to connect Karachi and Sukkur.

He said that the province contributing the highest tax revenue was neglected. However, he expressed hope that promises made to Sindh would be fulfilled.

The senior minister said that the Sindh government was laying a network of development projects across different cities. So far, he said, over 3,000kms of roads were constructed while additional pink scooties would be distributed. He said that 500 electric (EV) buses were being introduced and double-decker buses were expected to arrive soon.

He said efforts were being made by the Hyderabad Electric Supply Corporation (Hesco) and K-Electric to improve the electricity system.

He said. condition of road from Hyderabad to Sukkur was so poor that one feels as if one would need to travel in an ambulance.

Responding to a journalist’s question regarding the release of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf founder Imran Khan. Mr Memon said, “I pray for his release.”
