Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) on Tuesday provided alternative routes for commuters to use as some roads will remain closed for the 8th, 9th. 10th Muharram processions.
In a statement issued on X, the KTP said on Tuesday, “Special arrangements have been made to ensure the traffic flow. facilitate the citizens during the 8th, 9th, and 10th Muharram processions.”
According to a press release issued by the Karachi deputy inspector general’s (DIG) office, attached to the post, “On 8/9/10 Muharram (June 24/25/26, 2026), the central procession will depart from Nishtar Park. conclude at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian via its traditional routes.
“Due to security reasons, M.A. Jinnah Road will be closed to traffic from Gurumandir to Tower,” it added.
The press release also shared the alternative routes for the commuters to reach their destinations.
On Muharram 9, Gurumandir Chowk will be closed to traffic from 8:30am to 9:30am.
On Muharram 9, the road from Jamshed Road to Gurumandir. Bahadur Yar Jang Road will be closed from 10:30am to 1:30pm, the KPT said.
The press release further said that entry for all types of vehicles is prohibited on M.A. Jinnah Road, except for those participating in the procession that display a specific windscreen sticker.
These authorised vehicles should enter via Shahrah-i-Quaideen and the Society Light Signal.
Vehicles distributing Sabeel or Niaz will be part of the procession. Their entry points are: Saddar Dawakhana and Capri Light Signal. No vehicle is permitted to park anywhere along the procession route.
From Super Highway/Gulberg to M.A. Jinnah Road: All heavy commercial traffic will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 towards Nazimabad No. 2, continuing via Habib Bank Flyover, Estate Avenue Road and Shershah towards Mauripur. The same route applies for the return journey.
From National Highway to the city: Heavy commercial traffic will be diverted via Sharea Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road. Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, Estate Avenue Road, and Shershah towards Mauripur.
No traffic of any kind — whether light or heavy — is allowed beyond Gurumandir Chowk on the procession route. This traffic will be diverted toward Bahadur Yar Jung Road and Soldier Bazar.
