Let's begin with Somaliland

Let's begin with Somaliland

So lightly has the birth of a new state on the map of the world been taken. it's almost abhorrent! Somalia as a state does not approve of Somaliland's self-declared independence. has now called upon the UN member states to condemn Israel's solitary recognition of Somaliland.

Though the UN recognises the right of peoples to self-determination. this stands opposite to the right of territorial integrity of existing sovereign states. Like this. in so many UN dictates, there are always self-defeating channels that allow the UN to be practically a freeway for looters. Every country has ethnic and linguistic diversities, and there are dissidents in every state. Just imagine if a province of your country declares independence, what would that mean for national integrity and state legitimacy?

Somalia has a harsh history. In colonial times it was sliced as French Somaliland, Italian Somaliland and British Somaliland. At independence in 1960, these units had different currencies, languages and allegiances. Though the people were united for a Greater Somalia, parts of which were cut into Kenya. Ethiopia by colonial drawing, internally there was a lot of dissidence and clan-politics. After Said Barre, in 1991, the country plunged into disunity. Foreign entities, under the guise of UN peacekeeping, supplied small arms to clan leaders, thus converting cities. districts into self-proclaimed autonomous regions, with practically no central authority. Later in 2003, Al Shabab, an affiliate of al Qaeda, emerged, spreading terror. killings across the land, especially paralysing the capital Mogadishu. Kenya. Ethiopia have had border problems with Somalia because of ethnic Somalis living there who always wanted to join with Somalia, hence their wish to see a weak Somalia.

Fast forward to today. Iran, Israel. the US are at war; Gaza War is still unfinished; Yemen's Houthis threaten the American- and Israeli-linked ships passing Bab al-Mandab. A naval base in Somaliland right at the mouth of al-Mandab would be ideal to attack the Houthis. perhaps help take charge of the Strait; and Israel needs to find a place to expel the Gazans too! So, excellent timing for recognising Somaliland,. a good pay-off for all the hard work done by the US to keep Somalia destabilised and divided all these decades. And who else is happy: the Taiwanese ambassador is visiting the place; Ethiopia is eyeing the Somaliland-Ethiopia Corridor; Sweden is backing the Somaliland-Ethiopia Corridor; France is looking for strategic partnership;. Somaliland itself says it stands in solidarity with the Jewish community.

But strangely, Ukraine has officially supported Somalia's territorial integrity and opposed the recognition of Somaliland. Maybe. Ukraine is busy right now in collaborating with France in efforts to oust the new anti-France regime in Mali. And. reportedly, busy in Sudan too, where Ukrainian special forces have been actively supporting the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are reportedly backed by Russia along with others.

Fresh news is that Ethiopia's Tigray has colluded with RSF in launching drone attacks on SAF. But when Ethiopia hits SAF, Egypt gets hurt too, not just because Ethiopia has built the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile,. also because the envisioned Ethiopia-Somaliland Corridor gives Ethiopia access to the Red Sea, where it will partner with Israel in suppressing Arab/Palestinian interests. Israel's previous history with Sudan also suggests that it will be tying up with forces that aim at further balkanisation of Sudan. with Darfur as another runaway state.

Harmless France, by the way, in love for culture. heritage, just announced a €2 million project to protect archaeological heritage in Somaliland. The real culture. heritage of France is being the colonisers and neo-colonisers of west-Africa; the French are pushing to somehow expel newly formed anti-France regimes in Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Niger, Chad and Gabon. But it's going to be hard because all these new regimes are backed by Russia. So, it might as well find the colonial heritage in Somaliland. But this again would be a contest because Turkey is supporting the central government in Mogadishu, with military training, arms supply. even F-16 flying over to defend President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's presidency and the integrity of Somalia.

Turkey has also succeeded in bringing the two sides in Sudan together, arranging several weeks of joint military training. Perhaps the lesson was: you can't proxy forever, you need to return the country, to its people one day. Hopefully that lesson is rehearsed in Sudan too. where instead of supporting opposite sides with weapons, they should be brought to negotiations. And perhaps that was the reason why Pakistan has been asked to suspended $1.5 billion weapons. fighter jets deal with Sudan.

But that's not how Israel is thinking! It not only wants to empty Gaza. West Bank with every known method of genocide, it also wants Southern Lebanon and Southern Syria, the Druze region. That seems to be Israel's foreign policy: break and take. But how will Israel keep on with its mission of break. take, if the US, under its new defence strategy, will limit itself to the Western Hemisphere. For which President Trump just said that after leaving office, he might move to Venezuela. become president there, reminding us of the Butcher of Congo, King Leopold II of Belgium, who moved to Congo for his brutal, private rule over Congo in 1885-1908. Bolivar is dead, Leopard is alive!

Trump will also be closer to Cuba from there. By then the US would have attacked Cuba. ridding it of the Castros, who have been an unwanted symbol against the US neo-colonialism via the Batista regime since 1953. Now Trump aims to make Cuba great again by throwing it back at the feet of USA' interests. so that the Cubans can once again fall into the deep calm slumber of subjugation.

Big dramas are unfolding on the global stage,. humanity is watching - void of any conscience of responsibility, though soaked in a conscience of guilt.
