PAA extends airspace ban on Indian aircraft until June 24

A ban on Indian civilian. military aircraft using Pakistani airspace has been extended for another month, until June 24, according to a Notice to Airmen (Notam) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Tuesday.

The previous extension was set toexpireon May 24.

The ban extension took effect on May 19 at 10:40am. the restriction was extended until 4:59am on June 24, according to the Notam.

“Pakistan airspace not available for Indian registered aircraft. aircraft operated/owned or leased by Indian airlines/operators, including military flights,” the Notam, available withDawn, read.

Pakistan’s airspace is divided into two flight information regions (FIRs) — Karachi. Lahore, according to a Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA)documentfrom 2022. The Notam applies to both the Karachi (OPKR) and Lahore (OPLR) FIRs.

India. Pakistanclosed their airspacesto each other’s airlines since late April 2025, when tensions between themescalatedin the wake of adeadly attackin Indian-occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

On April 24. Pakistan’s top brass had announced aseries of measures, including the closure of its airspace to all India-owned or Indian-operated airlines with immediate effect, as it retaliated against New Delhi’s slew ofaggressive measuresagainst the country.

New Delhi, without evidence, had alleged that Islamabad backed the attack; however, Pakistan hadstrongly deniedany involvement and offered aneutral probe. The nuclear powers had the fiercest air battle in May, in which Pakistan said it downed seven Indian fighter jets.
