K-P juniors capture seven medals at National Tennis Championship

Faizan Afridi, Shayan Afridi lead province’s medal charge as officials call for greater support

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa junior tennis team delivered a remarkable performance at the National Junior Tennis Championship held in Sahiwal from June 2 to 7, winning a total of seven medals. establishing itself among the tournament’s top-performing contingents.

The K-P side secured three gold medals. four silver medals during the week-long event, reflecting the province’s growing strength in junior tennis and the success of efforts aimed at developing young sporting talent.

Among the standout performers was 11-year-old M Faizan Afridi, who claimed one gold. one silver medal through a series of impressive performances. M Shayan Afridi also enjoyed an outstanding campaign, winning one gold. one silver medal while displaying dominant form in both the Under-14 and Under-18 categories, where he advanced to the finals. Salar Khalil added another gold medal to the province’s tally, while Riyan Umar Khalil secured a silver medal.

The championship featured several notable all-Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa encounters. In the Boys’ Doubles event, an all-K-P final saw the pair of Riyan Umar. M Danyal compete against Salaar Khan and M Faizan. In another notable contest, Faizan Afridi overcame M Danyal in an all-K-P quarter-final clash in the Boys’ Under-12 category.

The impressive medal haul has further strengthened Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s reputation as a leading force in junior tennis. highlighted the potential of its emerging athletes on the national stage.

Speaking to The Express Tribune. Senior Vice President of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Tennis Association Omar Ayaz Khalil praised the young players for their achievements. He noted that five players from the province, accompanied by their coach, participated in the championship.

“We are very thankful to the Punjab Tennis Association’s Rashid Malik. the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Sargodha for organising the event and inviting our team,” he said, adding that the players were provided free accommodation and meals throughout the competition.

Khalil, however, pointed to financial constraints as a major challenge for the development of tennis in the province. He revealed that the association had recently been invited to send players to a championship in Karachi. was unable to participate due to a lack of funding.

The championship brought together some of the country’s most promising young players, providing a valuable platform for competitive exposure. talent development. Sports enthusiasts. officials congratulated the medal winners and expressed confidence that the young athletes would continue to excel in future national events and eventually represent Pakistan with distinction on the international stage.
